Artist Profile
Bill Kearns
More than 50 years ago when Roy Dunningham was teaching art at Hastings Boys High I was studying technical drawing and engineering. I met Roy when I attended his art classes at night school. from there we formed a friendship that would last for the rest of Roy's life.
Eventually my interest in photography saw me leave engineering for a 30-year career in newspaper photography starting at The Hawke's Bay Herald Tribune in 1972, now HB Today, then moving to The Dominion Post. At the same time, I was producing my own work centred around surrealism, all the while being guided and critiqued by Roy.
I have exhibited in Hawke's Bay and Wellington but for now I am focused on commercial work, but hope to return to my art.
