Artist Profile
Joanne Strachan
Joanne Strachan studied art at school, but only started seriously painting 23 years ago when her mother handed her a paintbrush and encouraged her to “give it a go.” She was so excited by her first attempts that she continued painting, sparking what she describes as a two-decade “love affair” with art.
A move from Hawke’s Bay to the South Island ten years ago gave Joanne the opportunity to fulfill her dream of painting the South Island scenery. It also opened many doors in the art and craft worlds, including opening her own gallery in Invercargill. Since returning to Hawke’s Bay, Joanne has held a stall at the local craft market and been teaching art privately.
The self-taught artist especially loves painting landscapes and old buildings using oils.
