Lizzie had previously studied Art and Design in London and then a stint at Elam in Auckland, when she returned from 16 years based in the UK.  She practiced interior design in Auckland and Waikato for a period, but was really keen to spend more time on her art. 

Both Lizzie and Martin wanted to move and establish community in Hawke’s Bay.  That was 2008 and shortly before his death, Lizzie made a pact with David that she would have an art exhibition of new works at the Arts Centre when she could fulfil her desire to relocate here.
