'TEXTILE RHAPSODY' A Fusion of Fibre and Form
Creative Fibre Hawke’s Bay is proud to announce it is holding its Biennial Exhibition and Sale of Work at Arts Inc. Heretaunga, 106 Russell Street South, from Monday 13th May to Saturday 25nd May.
The theme this year is “Textile Rhapsody – a fusion of fibre and form”. It is a celebration of our members’ enjoyment, companionship and craft skills, with goods from different clubs from throughout Hawke’s Bay.
Dr Mandy Rudge, with 30 years’ experience in Creative Arts, along with Pam Knight, Materials Technology teacher at Woodford House, spent last Saturday selecting category winners for Spinning, Knitting, Felting, Crochet, Weaving, Interpretation of Theme/Use of Colour, Sustainability/Recycling Award and Overall Winner. They were "impressed by the innovation and creativity in the use of fibres. The entries showcase the wonder of wool and the many ways in which it can be used”.
This year we have introduced a Sustainability/Recycling Award to encourage the use of 100% wool and /or the repurposing of materials. The People’s Choice will be decided by the public who visit the Exhibition.
Agnes Hauptli, an internationally recognised fibre artist and tutor based in Northland, will be our guest artist. Her major pieces will be visual in the front left window of the gallery and it will be worth viewing these magnificent woven pieces.
The awards will be presented at our official opening on Monday 13 May at 5.00pm by our Hastings Mayor, Sandra Hazlehurst. These awards would not be possible without the sponsorship from our groups and local businesses. This year we were extremely fortunate to receive a Hastings District Council NZ Creative Communities grant which has helped with the rental and publicity for this event.
The Exhibition pieces will be on show upstairs with a sale of members’ hand created works downstairs. Everything from designer wear, to accessories and household wares. The majority of goods are made in natural fibres – wool from various breeds, alpaca, silk, mohair, bamboo, cotton ora blend of these. These come in a range of colours from natural shades to the very bright.
We hope you will come and support this free event. Enjoy browsing the exhibition upstairs and vote for the People’s Choice. With the days getting chilly, the varied sale items downstairs will offer you a pair of designer socks or a hat to keep you warm or some wonderful handmade gifts for the family.
Engage with our Creative Fibre members who will be happy to answer your questions and demonstrate their craft. We are open from 9.30am to 4.00pm Mon to Fri and 10am to 2.00pm Sat. We look forward to you joining us.
