Firing Season

A Collaborative Exhibition to celebrate Woodfired Ceramics and its Community.

Curated by Holly Morgan and Scott Brough; Artists exhibiting at HAG Burning Ground.

Upstairs at the Hastings Community Art Centre.

We’re bringing the fire to the gallery - by that, we mean the community of friends, family, artists and collaborators essential to firing pottery in a wood kiln over multiple days.

This group show features a range of media, including ceramics, video, painting, sound, sculpture, woodwork and photography.

The exhibiting artists, from Te Matau-a-Māui and beyond, have each been involved in the firing process in some way, big or small. Long wood firings are demanding and labour-intensive. The works in this exhibition reflect a range of artistic responses to that shared, communal experience.
