PARADISE LOST
Janet Muir’s work reminds us that birds are more than creatures of beauty; they are vital indicators of our planet’s health. Paradise Lost is a call to listen, to notice, and to act—before more songs fall silent.
"I believe that birds - inhabiting every corner of the Earth, from icy poles to deserts and cities - are crucial indicators of our environment's health. Through my paintings I wish to explore how birds are affected by environmental issues such as habitat loss, climate change, pollution, pesticide use, invasive species, and disease. I wish to capture their beauty and fragility, drawing attention to the broader ecological challenges we face and to serve as a call to action to protect the delicate balance of our ecosystems.
By focusing on the plight of birds , I hope to inspire a deeper awareness of enviromental conservation and a commitment to preserving our planet for future generations. I hope that my work resonates with the quiet, yet profound loss humanity has experienced since the extinction of the dodo in 1681, the first recorded bird extinction."
